Christie King

Christie King is an emerging contemporary dance artist with a passion for collaborative performance and community-focused improvisation. She completed her formal training at Transit Dance in Melbourne, graduating with a Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) in 2019.

During her time at Transit, Christie performed in works by Gabrielle Nankivell, Paea Leach, Daniel Jaber, Adam Wheeler and Paul Malek. She also created and performed several original works during her training, including ‘Tea?’ and ‘Not Quite Ripe’.

Christie was a company member of Yellow Wheel from 2018 to 2020, performing in major works such as Trip the Light, featuring a remount of Gideon Obarzanek’s Circle Dance, and original pieces by Kyall Shanks and Arabella Fran-Starkie. Under the Artistic Direction of Kyall Shanks she also participated in numerous development programs and secondments, including the Australian Youth Dance Festival, Dancenorth, and Chunky Move’s SIMULCAST.

In her recent engagements with The Farm Company in Queensland, she has been heavily influenced by the artistic practice of Kate Harman and Gavin Webber. She has participated in Bare Bones (2022–2023) and Open Fields (2024), learning from guest artists such as Juliet Burnett, Thomas E. Kelly, and Tyrel Dulvarie. Christie brings an intuitive, collaborative spirit to her work and is continually exploring new ways to integrate movement, community, and artistic research.
