Jemma Brittney-Evans

I’m Jemma, a recent graduate of a two-year full-time course at Transit Dance, majoring in Contemporary dance, with additional training through the Australasian Dance Collective Intensive. I have had the delight of working with Kimball Wong, Chimene Steele-Prior, Stephanie Lake, Pamela Frank, and Jayden Hicks as well as touring to regional areas to perform work by Lachlan Hall. Throughout my focus on Contemporary dance, I have enjoyed performing as a commercial dancer at The Dance Abyss industry night and Pink Carpet events and continuing to explore my choreographic possibilities. I like to create a groove-like fluidity that holds space for floor acrobatics and harsher, sharper movement with enjoyment in taking up space in the room with large and explosive pathways to pump up the heart rate, conversely to my awareness in the opposing qualities my body leans towards when I am improvising versus set movement. Mentoring with the physical theatre company ‘Legs on the Wall’ and further training through Australasian Dance Collective has inspired me to explore my practice and involve elements of physical theatre, partnering and other artistic disciplines.

Fun fact: The beach is my happy place 🙂
