Jera Wynyard-Byrnes

Jera is a proud Aboriginal woman from the Dhurug and Awabakal Nations, currently training on
Gadigal land. Her practice is deeply rooted in improvisation and the connection between mind
and body, allowing her to move with authenticity and responsiveness to both herself and those
around her. She is drawn to cultivating presence, staying attuned to her surroundings, and
fostering meaningful connection through movement.
In 2024, she graduated from Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year, earning an
Advanced Diploma. During this time, she worked with choreographers Cass Mortimer Eipper,
Emma Harrison, Zee Zunner, and Thomas E.S Kelly, performing in the productions ‘Unfolds’ and
‘Revealed’. During this time, she also performed with three generations of dancers in
‘Resonance’ by James Batchelor as a continued legacy of Tanja Liedtke.
Fun Fact: Jera had an intense fear of opening her eyes when crossing any bridge for the
majority of her childhood.
