Vourneen (Vee) NiCainin

Vourneen (pronounced Vorn-yen) is Irish for “My Darling” but she prefers to be called Vee.
The influences that make up a part of Vee’s dynamic and virtuosic dance style stem from her training at the New Zealand School of Dance under the guidance of James O’Hara and Victoria Colombus, collaborating with industry guests such Ross McCormack, Damien Jalet and Felix Sampson.

Vee’s curiosities led her overseas to create and perform with b12 choreographer Akira Yoshida and across to Paris to unlock the creative process behind Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot with Jiri Pokorny. Being passionate about homegrown creation, Vee emerged herself in intensive experiences with Australian dance companies ADT, Dancenorth, ADC, Chunky Move, TAS Dance, The FARM and STRUT.
Vee has co-created independent works with long-term collaborator Alec Katsourakis’s InPlay Collective and landed a role as a dancer and emerging choreographer with Scimm. Dance Company in 2022.

Vee seeks out opportunities to create narrative and world-building based works, having created short works for Lucy Guerin’s Out of Bounds, Scimm. Dance Company’s pre-professional program, Scimm. Dance Company’s 10th year Anniversary and charity program Volume 1 run by fellow independent dancer Adrien Tucker.
Outside of the dance world, Vee finds enjoyment in her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practice, Bouldering and is a Pilates instructor. One of Vee’s long-term career goals is to create a full-length stage version of the animated film Fern Gully.
