Independent dance artists are seldom given opportunities to practice performing, to test ideas in front of an audience, or to receive constructive feedback on works in development. In response to consultation from the independent dance community in Sydney, DMC hosts One Night for Dance.

Developed to complement Campbelltown Arts Centre’s ‘Movement Movement: One Day for Dance’, One Night for Dance gives artists with works-in-progress, at any stage, an opportunity to test their ideas in front of a small, supportive and critically reflective audience.

This program is open to DMC Community Members* through an EOI. We can accommodate up to 6 artists/artist groups per event. If you are selected to present, DMC will provide you with some free studio space in the week leading up to the event in negotiation with other selected artists. Artists participating receive a split of the box office income and their work will be documented for personal use.

EOIs for this opportunity close approximately two weeks before the event, with selected artists notified the following day. The quick turnaround of this opportunity reflect the lo-fi nature of this event, we encourage people to apply with short works or snippets of works (somewhere between 5 and 15 minutes in length, or thereabouts) they have at the ready at whatever stage it is at, this event is intended to showcase process and ideas with a little bit of sparkle, this is a low pressure, fun opportunity!

DMC Community Members will be selected by DMC members based on their response to the expression of interest, if you wish to respond to the expression of interest in an alternative format please contact us.
There is a capacity of 6 works per event, EOIs close two weeks in advance of the event and will be reviewed in the day or two immediately after registrations close, artists will be notified that afternoon of the outcome
