Don’t you ever wish you could travel back to the Saturday night dance?
Take a spin across a glassy floor, to a swinging live band under sparkling lights? On Saturday nights with DMC, you can!
Dance Makers Collective and a local band, join together for an evening of joyous dancing with your partners, family and friends. This event is a spin-off of Dance Makers Collective’s 2020 Sydney Festival hit The Rivoli, taking inspiration from the peak dance hall and disco eras of the 1960s and 70s, reimagined for the modern lover of dancing. Whether you have a dance partner, like a night out on the town, or have a boogie in your bedroom, The Saturday Social is the place for you.
“Getting together and actually having fun participating in something. So great to see people of different ages having fun dancing and no need to have a partner or know how to dance. Thank you soooooo much to the organisers.”
The Saturday Night Social is a community engagement project involving workshops with dancers, culminating in a community event bringing together a live band, highly skilled dance facilitators, and the local community to dance together.
This project emerges at a time when social cohesion is at its lowest on record, as an antidote to depressed levels of connectivity impacted by cost-of-living pressure and cultural divison in a post-COVID world. DMC have developed this project specifically to aide in bringing people together, from different backgrounds and generations, to spark joy and foster community-building, what better way to do that than a social dance?!
Our Saturday Socials have packed out town halls in Dubbo, Bathurst, Warners Bay, Temora, Leeton, Ganmain, Cootamundra, Granville, Tamworth, Bondi, Brighton UK, Brighton Victoria, Randwick, Bellingen.
If this event has you excited to get the band together and the dance floor going, contact us to bring a Saturday (or any night) social to your town or city! Get in contact here!
