Dancing with Lolo & Papa

A spin-off from DMC’s much-loved show DADS, Dancing with Lolo and Papa is a warm-hearted, feel-good short dance-theatre work that uses choreography, recorded conversations and music to explore the role dance plays in ordinary people’s lives, through a patrilineal lens. Dancing with Lolo and Papa explores how dance has shaped the lives of two young dancers, Anton and Espoir, and the lives of their past generations, here in Australia and in their countries of birth.

Emerging as part of DMC’s national regional tour of DADS, to deeper engage local artists and communities, this work was reshaped into a piece of its own due to being unable to tour during COVID. Dancing with Lolo and Papa premiered at The Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre in Mt Gambier on 15th May 2022 as part of the Helpmann Theatre’s Live & Local Program, it was performed at The Helpmann again in July as part of the Mount Gambier Fringe Outreach programming as well as the South Australian performing arts presenters (SAPA) association event.
